Jim is a serial entrepreneur: founder and senior executive of 8+ early-stage technology companies with multiple exits. Jim has started companies as well as joined ones that were 1-3 years old, adding C level expertise to current management teams. He has P&L experience at large firms and emerging brands in Software, Audio, EdTech, FinTech, Government, Insurance, Transportation, and more. He also has a significant venture capital and fundraising track record. Jim currently is the principal of JN Harris & Associates, helping startups launch, fund and grow their ventures.
Jim’s first venture was launched out of Progressive Insurance in the mid 80’s, providing comparative quotes for property and casualty insurance. It was sold for 2.5X revenue. Since then he has held CEO/COO/CFO positions in companies with products/services ranging from: mobile workplace technologies, military grade speech recognition and communications, EdTech-E-learning, web based transportation services and medical devices. He most recently completed a 3-year stint as co-founder and CEO of ASI Audio, a joint venture offering an award-winning professional audio solution for musicians – selected as top 20 product by Mix Magazine. As part of his efforts at ASI, Jim raised >$3 million seed funding to build the team and enable product development, global supply chain infrastructure and commercial engine.
Some of the value-adds that Jim provides include: supporting capital raises, leading strategic planning efforts and managing their success; building teams to grow companies; establishing and implementing product development and market entry strategies; as well as performing CFO functions.
He has an MBA, Finance from The University of Michigan (with honors) and an AB, Physics from Hamilton College. Jim and his wife Penny, retired Department Chair, Sociology/Criminology John Carroll University, live in Shaker Heights, OH, and enjoy hiking, cooking, and kayaking.
